The Minister of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, has asked Gold Fields Ghana Limited to reconsider their decision not to sponsor Medeama Sporting Club again.
According to the club, they received a letter from the company about the decision before the second leg of the CAF Champions League game against Horoya in Guinea but had to keep it away from the playing body to get them focused.
Medeama went on to secure qualification to the group stage of the competition after a 4-3 aggregate win despite losing 2-1 in Conakry.
Addressing the media on Monday, October 2, Duker quizzed Goldfields' decision while calling them to reconsider their stand.
"We would ask Gold Fields to rescind their decision on the letter they wrote, indicating that they are unable to sponsor Medeama. That is very unfortunate," he said.
"As part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities, we expect them to carry Medeama along and hold our hands to make Ghana proud. I believe that letter should not have been written at all.
"I don't see why they should take some of the responsibilities of Medeama. I am asking them to rescind that decision immediately."
