Nigerian comedian AY Makun has apologised after coming under fire for making insensitive comments about musician Davido during one of his stand-ups.
In a viral video, AY Makun was heard making remarks about the number of children Davido has with multiple women, seemingly attempting to draw a comparison between their respective life experiences.
Unlike Davido, AY Makun and his wife welcomed a new baby into their family in January 2022, 13 years after his first child after years of struggle.
AY during his stand up said “Davido, with his small prick, dey give people belle, belle, belle, belle. With my big Warri prick, 13 years belle no come.”
This comment was widely criticised for being insensitive and disrespectful to the Afrobeats sensation.
An aide to Davido Isreal DMW also called out AY Makun for being disrespectful to the ‘Unavilable’ hitmaker.
Apologising in his Instagram post, AY expressed deep remorse, stating that he deserves all the backland and anger for making such a statement.
“I am so sorry for telling that joke the way it came out in Warri. I shouldn’t even call it a joke anymore. It wasn’t funny like it was during my tour of Canada and the US and you have every right to be angry after seeing how the blogs used it,” he wrote.
He emphasised that he had no excuse for his inappropriate remarks noting that this experience served as a learning opportunity.
AY reaffirmed his admiration for Davido, addressing him as "my Aburo" (a term of endearment), and ended the post by declaring his continued support and love for the musician.
“Please know that it is always a learning experience for all of us in the entertainment business. I deserve any backlash coming my way for the joke that was badly delivered. No excuses at all, my Aburo. No reason am. I remain your number one fan, and I love you, @davido,” the post read.
Replying to his apology Davido wrote, "Nothing spoil baba mi ❤️."
