The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afram Plains North, has condemned Alexander Afenyo-Markin's remarks against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, labelling them as disrespectful and exhibiting gender bias.
In Parliament on Monday, March 11, the Majority Leader asserted that the NDC's selection of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, a woman in her 70s, as their running mate, indicates a lack of succession planning and visionary leadership within the party.
In response, Madam Krosbi Mensah issued a statement expressing her disappointment with Afenyo-Markin's comments.
She emphasised the need for him to publicly apologize to all women for his disparaging remarks, despite his retraction.
Furthermore, she called upon gender advocates and all well-meaning Ghanaians to rally in support of this significant achievement by a woman and to appreciate the NDC for recognising Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang's capabilities by appointing her as a running mate.
Madam Krosbi Mensah urged individuals to distance themselves from discriminatory political commentary and instead, show their solidarity with Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and the NDC.
“On all gender advocates and well-meaning Ghanaians to rise and support this milestone achieved by a woman and appreciate the NDC for recognizing her in the higher office of a running mate and to disassociate themselves from discriminatory political comments such as what the leader of the majority has done.”
