Asante Kotoko secured their first win in eight games on Sunday afternoon after beating Samartex at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Enoch Morrison scored from the penalty spot for the Porcupine Warriors as they recorded a 1-0 win on matchday 27 of the Ghana Premier League.
Kotoko came into the fixture with no wins in their last seven games, losing six and drawing just one.
Samartex, on the other hand, had commanded a five-point lead at the top of the table heading into the encounter.
Prosper Narteh Ogum's side started the game on a stronger foot and created a handful of chances but were unable to make them count.
The league leaders came into the second the better side mounted pressure on Kotoko but also couldn't convert their chances.
However, the home side were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute.
Morrison scored from the resulting spot-kick to put Kotoko in the driving seat.
Despite the Timber Giants' late charge, they were unable to draw the game level handing Kotoko all three points.
The result means Kotoko climbed back to 10th position on the league table with five games left to play.
Samartex still stay five points clear off on the standings as Nations FC and Aduana FC also suffered defeats on the road.
