The Ghana Police Service says it has commenced investigations into the alleged electoral offence captured on video during the by-election in Ejisu in the Ashanti region on Tuesday, April 30.
The alleged electoral offence involved some temporary officers of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso constituency in the Ashanti region, Professor Kingsley Nyarko.
In the viral video, the MP was seen surreptitiously pulling a white envelope from his pocket and placing it on the table in front of the EC officials.
The persons involved, George Sasu, Regina Serwaa and Dr Kingsley Nyarko have subsequently been invited by the Police to assist the investigation and their statements duly taken.

Police is working together with the Electoral Commission as the investigation continues.
Subsequently, the EC withdrew the two temporary staff.
Responding to the matter in a post on Friday, May 3, the Police said, “The persons involved, George Sasu, Regina Serwaa, and Prof Kingsley Nyarko have subsequently been invited by the Police to assist the investigation and their statements duly taken.”
The post further stated that the Police are working together with the Electoral Commission as the investigation continues.
While many have condemned the MPs action, he has defended it with claims he did not intend to bribe anybody and that the envelope contained cash he offered them to buy food upon learning that their food allocation for the exercise had not been brought in yet.
He has insisted that he could not have bribed the officials in the glare of the public and that his intentions were noble and his conscience clean.
