Black Stars coach Otto Addo has expressed his desire to see left-back Baba Rahman return to the squad despite the player's reluctance to be involved.
Ghana recently announced a 23-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger during a press conference held by the Ghana Football Association on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Notable absentees from the squad included Andre Ayew, Daniel Amartey, and Baba Rahman. Addo revealed that Baba Rahman declined another approach to return to the national team.
"When it comes to Baba Rahman, it’s a bit different because he chose not to join. Last time, I spoke about issues like bullying and urged the media not to target players like Baba. They have families and friends, and these things affect more than just the player—they impact everyone around them. We’re all human, and there should be a limit that the press shouldn’t cross," he said
"I hope Baba Rahman will decide to play again; at the moment, he doesn’t want to come back,” he added.
Baba Rahman was subjected to abuse at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi during the Black Stars' final 2023 AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic.
The Black Stars will begin their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign in Group F against Angola on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium, before travelling to Morocco to play Niger for their second game on September 9.
