The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer for election 2024, John Dramani Mahama has urged Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), to instruct the party's parliamentary candidates to remove their campaign posters from equipment procured by the government for the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
DRIP is a nationwide initiative focused on enhancing road infrastructure across all 275 constituencies.
During a rally in Yeji in the Pru East District in the Bono East Region, John Mahama pointed out that the DRIP project is funded by taxpayers and should not be used for political promotion.
He stressed that the equipment distributed under the project belongs to all Ghanaians, not just the NPP.
John Mahama called on President Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia to fulfill their responsibilities to the entire nation rather than catering solely to their party’s interests.
He demanded the immediate removal of the posters and warned that the NDC would take further action if this issue was not addressed.
“It’s the government’s money, funded by the taxes we all pay—whether you’re NPP, CPP, Christian, or Muslim—everyone contributes. They’ve used those taxes to import earth-moving equipment for road construction, and each district has been allocated some. But now, we’re seeing posters of NPP parliamentary candidates on the DRIP equipment.
“I want to remind Akufo-Addo and Bawumia that they serve the entire country, not just the NPP. The equipment doesn’t belong to the party; it belongs to all Ghanaians.
“No one has the right to place their posters on the DRIP equipment. They must order the immediate removal of these posters, or we’ll be forced to take action ourselves,” he stated.
