The Director of Research and Election of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako has stated that the party would not entertain the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in matters concerning alleged irregularities in the voter register.
Speaking on the Joy News’ AM Show, he reiterated that the NPP is focused on marketing its presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia hence they had no time to deal with the NDC on the issue of the integrity of the voter’s register.
Mr Nimako claimed that the NDC had refused to collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) so that their grievances could be addressed, rather the opposition party wanted to go their way.
“You are not prepared to submit the list to the EC but you are prepared to give it to a committee chaired by Dr Arthur Kennedy or IMANI or whatever. We, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are focused and we will not be distracted by this call now,” Mr Nimako said.
However, in response to Mr Nimako, the Deputy Director of Elections for the NDC, Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer reaffirmed the NDC’s resolve to insist that the voter’s register be audited before the 2024 general elections.
On the same show, Dr Tanko-Computer alleged that the Electoral Commission’s refusal to have the voter’s register audited is an indication that there are intentions to rig the upcoming elections.
He explained that the EC was trying to manipulate the register now, while observers were not watching so that they could rig the elections later and attribute it to technical issues.
“What they are saying is that when you want to manipulate elections, you rig the register way ahead, months to the elections. At the time of doing the manipulation, observers are not around. You know as we speak, we don’t have international observers… so they are singing from this hymn book, manipulate the register since the observers are not seeing,” he said.
Mr Nimako believes that the EC is working assiduously to ensure the credibility of the voter’s register.
