Former Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah, has urged players to demonstrate commitment anytime they play for the national.
Ghanaians have accused Black Stars players in recent times of not showing the same commitment as they do when playing for their clubs.
These follow recent performances of the Black Stars at the World Cup and recent Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
According to him, players need to know playing for the country is an honour and should and need to let people know.
“I think it's not only the captain; players who come to the national team have to be committed,” Appiah said before Parliament Sports Select Committee on Wednesday.
“All of them need to show commitment because we have a population of 30-something million [people in Ghana] and only 23 players are selected to represent the nation.
“It's an honour, and you have to know that you are representing Ghana. So whatever you have to do to make it work, you have to.
“For the past five years, we have been struggling. We are not seeing things like that. So I think it's not only the captain."
Appiah made these comments while addressing Parliament’s Sports Select Committee's review of a petition submitted by the Save Ghana Football Forum.
