The Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured the youth of Ghana that he is well-positioned to understand their concerns, having engaged extensively with them over the years.
Addressing young Ghanaians at a special event in Accra on Sunday, Dr Bawumia shared that his interactions with the youth have inspired him, and they will remain his priority as the next President of the country.
"Throughout this year alone, through my youth connect initiative and other forums across the country, I have engaged with you, the youth, and listened to your fears, concerns, and aspirations," Dr Bawumia said.
"I have been inspired by the ingenuity and the can-do spirit of the Ghanaian youth. When I say to you today that your concerns and aspirations are my top priorities, I mean it with every fibre of my being," he added.
"Indeed, I have been consistent from the onset in making the destiny of the youth of Ghana my utmost priority."
Dr Bawumia reiterated a key part of his acceptance speech from when he was elected as the NPP Flagbearer, focusing on his broader vision for Ghana.
"I have my own vision and my own priorities. Given the opportunity by you, the people of Ghana, to lead, I shall govern as my own man, with guidance from Almighty God. My vision is to build an inclusive, food self-sufficient, job-generating, data-driven, and systems-based nation that will fully participate in the global digital revolution to solve our problems and usher in a golden age of benefits from our natural resources.
"I want to lead a nation that develops and unleashes the talents of our youth, offers good jobs with fair pay, and fosters sustainable growth with macroeconomic discipline. As the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, this is my commitment to the youth of Ghana.
"The talent of our youth in various sectors—such as information technology, robotics, entrepreneurship, creative arts, and sports—is remarkable. By bringing together the talents of the youth, we will build a mighty nation. Together, we can transform this nation and achieve even more in many areas. I therefore invite the youth, especially Generation Z, to join me on this journey of great possibilities. There is a place for you."
Dr Bawumia further assured the youth that, in line with his quest for inclusivity, he "intends to ensure that the specific needs of young people are adequately addressed by my government if given the mandate, as I see this as vital to making a meaningful, long-term difference."
"If you elect me as your next President, I promise to involve you—the young people of Ghana—in the formal political process, so that your voices are heard and your ideas are incorporated into government policies."
