The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to enact and pass a National Climate Law as part of its strategy to address the growing threats posed by climate change.
This commitment was made by Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, a member of the NDC’s Natural Resources, Mining, and Science Committee, during a manifesto debate on JoyNews on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Prof. Klutse stressed that the law would be a cornerstone of the NDC's climate agenda, aimed at mitigating climate change's adverse impacts on Ghana’s peace, security, and prosperity.
“The NDC is mindful of the threat from climate change. In our manifesto, we have committed to enacting and passing a National Climate Change Law to safeguard the future of our country,” she stated.

According to Prof Klutse, the NDC would also work to enhance the climate-resilient sensitive sectors including agriculture, water resources, energy, fisheries and infrastructure.

She added “We want to align with international efforts to support our infrastructure in the country. Because climate change is global, and so we need to align with global policies like the warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius.”
She further noted that the NDC intends to enhance Ghana’s participation in climate change diplomacy so that Ghana can "shape its global decisions and contribute to global decisions appropriately."
