Private legal Practitioner Eric Owusu Sae has commended the Ghana Police Service for handling the post-election incidents in parts of the country.
According to him, the police has exercised professional restraint and patience in handling the situation preventing it from escalating and creating further tensions in the country.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Mr Sae said the police's conduct throughout the electioneering has been commendable.
“As expected, the 2024 elections have been peaceful, and the nation appears to be moving on. I have however noticed isolated incidents of post-election tension in some parts of the country. It is commendable how the Ghana Police is handling these incidents.
“So far, I’m yet to come across a report of an assault on any citizen or gunshots by the Police, which incidents are associated with African elections. I expect more of such restraint and professionalism exhibited by the Police to continue as these traits are a function of a fledgling democracy,” he noted.
So far, over 100 people have been arrested in connection with the pockets of vandalism that followed the elections with many of them going through the due process of the law for prosecution.
