Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has lauded the leadership of the Ghana Police Service for their role in ensuring a relatively peaceful electoral process during the December 2024 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 on Friday, December 13, Mr Gbande emphasised that the proactive stance taken by the police played a key role in preventing any activities that could have compromised the integrity of the polls.
He noted that the vigilance of the police ensured that attempts to manipulate the electoral process were thwarted, thereby averting potential violence.
According to him, the professionalism exhibited by the security forces demonstrated their commitment to upholding the nation’s democracy and protecting the will of the people.
"The leadership of the police administration deserves commendation for their actions. They did not allow any rigging activities that could have resulted in chaos," he stated.
Mr Gbande further stressed the robust measures put in place by the NDC to safeguard their votes. He revealed that the party was well-prepared to resist any attempts to undermine the electoral process, reiterating the NDC’s commitment to protecting the democratic mandate of Ghanaians.
"The NDC had a robust plan to protect our votes, and we would have stopped at nothing to achieve that," he added.
He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the party and other stakeholders in ensuring the success of the elections.
Mr Gbande called on all political actors to build on this foundation of transparency and fairness to strengthen Ghana’s democratic institutions and processes in the future.
