President-elect John Mahama has stated that although the National Democratic Congress (NDC) holds a clear majority in the forthcoming Parliament, it cannot govern alone.
“Even though we have a large majority, people say you can use it to do this, you can use it to do that. No, that is not what it is about,” he said. He emphasized that governance is about working together to build the nation.
“It is about working together to build the nation we want,” he added.
Mr Mahama expressed that, to lead the nation to where it deserves to be, he requires collaboration from all sectors.
“One person can’t do it alone. It’s true I was voted for, my face was on the ballot papers, but that is why I say building the Ghana we want together – together is the most important word there,” he said.
The incoming president made these comments during the December 31st watch night service at an Assemblies of God church in Tamale.
He stressed that making Ghana a better place will require the collective effort of all Ghanaians, including various opposition political parties. “It will take all of us – NPP, NDC, New Force, Movement for Change, CPP, PNC, ACP, and everyone, even those who don’t belong to any party,” he stated.
Mr Mahama won the December 7th general election with 56.55% of the vote, granting him the mandate to return to the presidency on January 7, 2025.
