The Volta Region has been assured of its due recognition in government appointments under the administration of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
This assurance was given by the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Comrade Mawutor Agbavitor, in response to concerns raised by party members and traditional leaders in the region.
In a statement issued by the chairman, he acknowledged the apprehensions expressed by the region’s chiefs and party faithful regarding their share of national appointments.
He reaffirmed that the NDC leadership is committed to rewarding the loyalty and contributions of the Volta Region, which remains a stronghold for the party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to make it clear that the Volta Region will be considered for appointments in the new NDC administration without fail,” Comrade Agbavitor stated emphatically.
Acknowledging Volta’s unwavering loyalty
The Volta Region has been pivotal to the NDC’s electoral success, delivering over 90% of the votes in the 2024 general elections. The region achieved a clean sweep of all 18 parliamentary seats, including the strategic recapture of Hohoe. Additionally, the NPP’s influence in the region was reduced by 47%, significantly contributing to President Mahama’s emphatic victory.
“The President is fully aware of our unwavering loyalty and hard work. Our meaningful contributions shall be rewarded accordingly,” Agbavitor assured.
Call for restraint and unity
Despite the anticipation for appointments, Chairman Agbavitor appealed for patience and understanding among party members. He urged the rank and file of the NDC in the Volta Region to moderate their expectations while leadership works to ensure fair representation.
“While we look forward to other opportunities in appointments, I urge the rank and file of our party to exercise some restraint and be considerate in our expectations,” he advised.
Commitment to Volta’s progress
The Volta NDC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the interests of the region within the broader framework of national development. Chairman Agbavitor assured the people of continued advocacy to secure their rightful place in governance.
The statement underscores the NDC’s recognition of the Volta Region as a bastion of support and promises a collaborative approach to fulfilling campaign pledges.
About the NDC in Volta region
The NDC remains the dominant political force in the Volta Region, often referred to as the party’s "world bank" due to its consistent electoral support. The region’s loyalty has been instrumental in securing victories in national elections, cementing its strategic importance in the party’s governance and policy agenda.
