A section of the public in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional capital, has welcomed the nomination of Mrs Charity Gardiner as the Ahafo Regional Minister-designate, with joy, describing her choice as the best for the region now.
Mrs Gardiner is the Ahafo Regional Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In an interview at Goaso, the residents including political actors, commended President Mahama for selecting the nominee, saying, that reflected on the President’s readiness to appoint more women into leadership positions.
With Mrs Gardiner’s nomination, the residents said they were highly optimistic that more women would also be appointed to serve as Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region.
Safiyatu Haruna, a civil society actor and a native of the Ahafo region said; “some of us are satisfied with her nomination because we know her, and she can do the job.”
He also urged the nominee not to disappoint the people, especially, women in the region.
“Her nomination shows that the President is gender sensitive and we have to praise Mr Mahama for selecting her as the first female Regional Minister since the region was carved out from the then Brong-Ahafo Region,” Mr Michael Ampofo, a resident stated.
Yaw Okyere, the Ahafo Regional Chairman of the NDC, said the party supporters had since hailed the President’s nomination, congratulating the nominee for her loyalty to the party, and her hard work and resilience, especially during the 2024 General Elections.
“Gardiner’s nomination is the best choice for us because her perfect human relations, affability and experience will push the progressive development of the region,” he stated.
