AngloGold Ashanti Schools has announced a temporary closure following a wave of security concerns in Obuasi.
The town has witnessed incidents involving the burning of vehicles belonging to private entities and individuals, as well as damage to private properties.

This comes after violent clashes between small-scale miners and military personnel guarding the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Mine which left eight people reportedly dead.

In a press release issued on January 19, the management of the schools stated that the closure aims to ensure the safety and welfare of students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders.
The schools will remain closed on Monday, January 20, and Tuesday, January 21, 2025, with plans to reopen on Wednesday, January 23, provided calm is restored.

Residents and stakeholders in the Obuasi community are hopeful for a swift resolution to the security challenges affecting the area.
