Kofi Adams has “willingly accepted” the Sports Minister nomination as the President John Mahama sees him as best fit the role.
The appointment came as a surprise to many, with names like Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Francis Dodoo, and Ben Nunoo Mensah initially emerging as frontrunners for the position.
However, the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency was ultimately selected and now awaits vetting by the Appointments Committee.
"I am not one of the real faces of sports when it comes to even my political party," Kofi told JoySports in an exclusive interview.
"Where the leader sits, he sees what everybody has and depending on the agenda that he has as a leader, he will think that at this moment, this is the person that can do the trick.
"So His Excellency the President knows what it is that he sets out to do for the Sports and Recreation Ministry and feels that I am the best fit for that role now. I have accepted it willingly, I have accepted the challenge.
"We want to see every aspect of sports grow and together with stakeholders, we will do it."
The 49-year-old is expected to replace Mustafa Ussif, who served as Minister of Sports from 2021.
Kofi is expected to change the fortunes of the industry including sports infrastructure, national teams funding and performance at major tournaments.
