CEO of Box Office Sports Promotions, Alex Ntiamoah, is calling on the government to “reward” history maker Abigail Quartey for her WIBF title victory to inspire up-and-coming female boxers in the country.
Abigail defeated British boxer Sangeeta Birdi via a unanimous decision to become Ghana’s first female world champion and the country’s 11th world titleholder.
It has been three months since the 28-year-old etched her name in the annals of history with no recognition yet from the government.
"The future is bright for female boxing in Ghana," Ntiamoah told JoySports’ Haruna Mubarak in a documentary titled “Abigail Quartey: Her Gloves, Her Glory”.
"At the Amateur and Juvenile levels, we have a lot [of female boxers]. If she [Abigail] is rewarded or get some reward from government and other stakeholders, it will inspire the up-and-coming ones to give it all their might.
"Government should do something about it.
The focus now shifts to how Abigail can successfully defend her title and cement her legacy.
