Black Queens midfielder Azumah Bugre has expressed confidence in new head coach Kim Lars Björkegren, describing him as “different” from others.
Björkegren made his debut as head coach of the women's senior national team in a match that ended in a late defeat. A partially cleared ball was pounced on by Sakina Ouzraoui, who scored in injury time to secure victory for the hosts.
Speaking to the GFA media team, Bugre said she was honoured to rejoin the team and was optimistic about their preparations.
“To begin with, I will say am so honoured to be called to join the Black Queens team once more again, I’m really happy to be here in Morocco preparing towards our friendlies and ahead of the WAFCON,” she said
She acknowledged the differences in Björkegren’s coaching style and emphasized the team’s effort to adapt.
“I will say every coach has his/her philosophy and style of play and system, I think he comes in with something different but it’s quite good because not just me but along with my teammates, we’re trying to adapt well, we had like two training sessions and it’s been good,” she said.
Bugre also stressed the importance of players embracing new tactical approaches.
“We understand each other and everything is clear, I think sometimes we miss one or two things but we are able to put out questions to clarify some things. I think we’re adapting so so well and I think it’s going to be a good way moving forward.”
The Black Queens have been drawn into Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania for the continental tournament.
