On the night of Wednesday, April 9, 2025, gunmen stormed the palace of a local sub-chief in Poayamire, a village located in the Binduri District. The attack left one person dead and two others wounded.
The victims were identified as Naba Atamburi, the sub-chief, and two of his family members, who were all shot during the assault.
The injured individuals were quickly transported to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for urgent medical care.
Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital, further intensifying the shock and sorrow surrounding the attack.
The other two victims remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment.
Although the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, many residents suspect that it could be linked to the ongoing violence in the Bawku area.
Tensions have been rising in the region, exacerbated by several incidents, including an alleged police shooting that led to the death of a civilian.
The increasing instability in the area has caused widespread fear among locals.
Since the flare-up of the Bawku conflict in October 2024, the violence has claimed the lives of at least 83 people, with the death toll continuing to rise.
The recent attack on the palace has further fueled concerns that the situation could escalate, impacting the already fragile peace in the region.
Security forces have yet to release an official statement regarding the latest attack, though investigations are ongoing.
Authorities are focused on restoring calm to the area, as the community grapples with the aftermath of yet another act of violence linked to the prolonged conflict.
