The Youth Wing of the People’s National Party (PNP) has condemed the arrest of Mr Alfred Ababio Kumi, popularly known as Adenta Kumi, a former parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Adenta Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
In a statement released by the PNP’s National Youth Organiser, Muniru Muhammed, the arrest, allegedly executed by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) during a dawn raid—was described as a troubling development that undermines democratic engagement, particularly among Ghana’s youth.
“This arrest sends a worrying signal to the youth of Ghana who are increasingly finding their voices and speaking out against injustice, corruption, and the misuse of public office,” Muniru said.
Mr Muhammed asserted that such acts not only intimidate but could also suppress a generation that must be encouraged, not silenced, for holding public institutions to account.
He emphasised that Ghana’s progress hinges on the full participation of its young people in governance and national development. “Ghana needs jobs, opportunities, and hope for its youth, not fear, intimidation, and arbitrary arrests,” he said.

The Youth Wing of the PNP has called for Mr Kumi’s immediate release should it be established that due process was not followed, demanding full transparency from the NIB concerning the basis for the arrest.
“All state institutions must operate within the confines of the law and uphold the rights and dignity of every citizen,” Mr Muhammed insisted.
Reaffirming the PNP’s commitment to democratic freedoms, the Youth Organiser said that the party remains resolute in defending the rights of young Ghanaians and ensuring the country continues to shine as a beacon of democracy on the African continent.
