President John Dramani Mahama has lauded Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his unwavering dedication to good governance, justice, and social accountability, describing him as a powerful moral compass in moments when the country’s leadership has been tested.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Otumfuo at the Jubilee House on Monday, June 2, President Mahama said the Asantehene’s bold interventions during times of institutional failure have not gone unnoticed.
“Your Majesty, your commitment to good governance, justice and social accountability is well known. You’ve spoken boldly and wisely in times when our institutions have faulted and when the moral fibre of leadership has been tested. Your courage has not gone unnoticed,” President Mahama remarked.
He emphasised the Asantehene’s impact beyond traditional leadership, noting his ongoing investments in education, health, economic empowerment, and culture through the Otumfuo Educational Foundation.
“These efforts are not in vain. They are building human capital and renewing faith in our traditional authorities, not as a resistance to modernity but as a foundation for development,” he said.
President Mahama also expressed hope for continued collaboration as his government pursues economic revitalisation, job creation under the 24-hour economy initiative, and equitable resource distribution.
“We will rely on your wise counsel and the grassroots reach of your traditional authority,” he stated.
He further acknowledged the role of chieftaincy in democratic progress.
“You have shown that traditional leadership is not only compatible with democratic progress but it is indispensable to it,” President Mahama said, adding that the visit by Otumfuo and his delegation was not merely symbolic but a signal of deep commitment to partnership, peace, and progress.
