Asante Kotoko captain Frederick Asare has described his team’s hard-fought 2-1 win over Division One side Golden Kicks in the MTN FA Cup final as a “special day” despite not playing.
The Porcupine Warriors lifted their 10th FA Cup title on Sunday at the University of Ghana Stadium, marking their first major silverware since the 2021/22 season.
Although Asare did not feature in the game with head coach Karim Zito opting for Mohamed Camara in goal, Asare was full of joy as he celebrated his first trophy with the club.
“This is my first time winning a trophy for Kotoko. It’s been six years since we last lifted [the FA Cup], so this is a special day,” Asare said.
“We’re grateful to our supporters for coming. We hope to do something even more special for them in the years ahead.”
Kotoko's latest triumph ends an eight-year wait for the MTN FA Cup and solidifies their status as the second most successful club in the competition’s history, with 10 titles, two behind arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.
