There was drama on the Busunu-Damongo stretch of the Fufulso-Sawla highway on Friday when a cargo truck driver allegedly resisted arrest and damaged a police patrol vehicle during a high-speed confrontation.
The driver, whose name has been withheld, was transporting tomatoes and other food items from Techiman in the Bono Region to Damongo in the Savannah Region.

According to the police, the driver refused to stop at a checkpoint near the outskirts of Damongo, despite being signalled to do so by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD). Instead, the driver reportedly sped off, covering a distance of nearly half a kilometre before he was forced to stop.

Eyewitnesses, including members of a news team present at the scene, described the incident as dangerous and chaotic.
The truck allegedly nearly ran over road users in the township before finally being brought to a halt with the help of residents and nearby motorists.
The driver is accused of smashing the side mirror of the police patrol vehicle during the altercation, further escalating the situation.

A police source told reporters that the truck’s brakes were allegedly faulty, which may have contributed to the driver’s failure to stop when signalled.
Both the driver and his mate claimed the truck had experienced an overflow and insisted that was the reason they did not stop for inspection.
The two are currently in custody at the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters in Damongo, where investigations are ongoing.
