Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited, has been arrested by national security operatives in connection with alleged financial misconduct committed during his tenure.
Mr Jumah was reportedly taken into custody on Sunday, 29th June in Kumasi.
His arrest was effected following a formal request by security personnel who later escorted him in a pick-up vehicle to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where he is currently being held.
The arrest has been linked to ongoing investigations into financial irregularities, including the unauthorised disposal of company assets and controversial vehicle acquisitions believed to have occurred under his leadership at the state-owned distillery.
Prior to this, an attempt had been made by security officials on 15th May to retrieve government vehicles allegedly retained by Mr Jumah after his exit from office.
However, he was reportedly absent from the premises at the time.
Sources familiar with the matter have indicated that the arrest forms part of a broader inquiry into suspected breaches of public financial management protocols, with investigators seeking clarity on how several official resources were handled during his administration.
No formal charges have yet been announced, but legal proceedings are expected to follow upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
