The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, says the introduction of the Standard Player Contract will be the difference maker in Ghana's football system.
Okraku announced the formal approval of the initiative during the 31st GFA Ordainary Congress in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12.
The approval follows an extensive collaboration between the Football Association, its members and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) over the years.
According to the GFA, the Standard Player Contract "aims to improve player conditions and welfare by codifying some minimum provisions and standards of a player’s contract in Ghana. Its primary objective is to provide guarantees on contractual obligations, creating a level playing field between clubs and minimising legal disputes."
Speaking on the floor of Congress, Okraku said, "In my opinion, this is the best gift to the Ghanaian game; the introduction of the Standard Player Contract.
"It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I announce the formal approval of the GFA Standard Player Contract set to take effect from the 2025/26 football season. This development is a product of extensive collaboration between the GFA, PFAG and all key stakeholders.
"This marks a significant step forward in the professionalisation of Ghanaian football."
The GFA Standard Player Contract, which is applicable for the signing of all professional players in Ghana, will be fully implemented in the Ghana Premier League, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and the Access Bank Division One League.
