Considering the state of our party, the steps we must take to build a new foundation will not be easy. More debate, more disagreement, and some resistance will follow as we embark on this journey.
Some will prefer the status quo; others will not, and that is to be expected. We need leaders who can take us out of the worst electoral crisis our party has ever faced. Over the years, as I have followed politics, I never imagined such a disappointing performance, whatever the reasons may be.
As it stands, we have no choice but to prevent another poor performance or even a devastating loss. We need people with the right temperament, courage, and creativity to bring solutions to our crisis, people who can approach political work with calm and wisdom, yet act boldly and think differently. As we move forward, we will all be required to make difficult decisions and huge sacrifices.
We need excellence and compassion, a change that makes the NPP work for the people who toil for it during hard times. Hon Dr Bryan Acheampong has shown compassion when some people were in desperate situations and had been forgotten by the party or the establishment.
We need a leader who can bring the NPP closer to the people and groom the best leaders in the nation, putting them to work for the benefit of many. Dr Bryan Acheampong is a man of high integrity who can restore the relationship between party faithful and the higher echelons of the party and country.
He is one of those who has been deeply frustrated and concerned about the future of the NPP and the ordinary people of our beloved country.
Many leaders — including Carlos Ahenkorah, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Annoh-Dompreh, and the Minority Leader — are unhappy about worsening economic problems, outdated policies, and the shrinking income in people’s pockets. We need strong, straightforward leaders.
With his experience, Dr Bryan Acheampong can maintain effective operational security practices, manage sensitive information, and safeguard against unauthorised disclosures.
He has had responsibilities in all phases of politics and party management and has engaged with all regions of the country. During his tenure as Minister of Food and Agriculture, he played a key role in employee relations, led negotiations on behalf of the government in Europe, China, North America, the UK, and Canada, and delivered outstanding work on cocoa pricing. We know food prices were more stable under his leadership.
In addition, Dr Bryan Acheampong brings a diverse skill set, with a background in law, business, innovation, computing, software development, and cybersecurity. These are the reasons I believe he is the right person to make people believe in the NPP again.
He has done a fantastic job. My confidence in his ability, and the tremendous respect I have for him both professionally and personally, remain unchanged. He is a remarkable person — I have seen it first-hand.
He must be at the forefront of planning for the party’s critical restructuring. Dr Bryan Acheampong is both a colossal and constructive force for Ghana and for the NPP.
