The President of the Ga Traditional Council, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has pledged to purchase 1,000 tickets for fans to watch the 2025 Democracy Cup match between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics on Friday, September 5, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The Ga Mantse made this known when organisers of the annual game paid a courtesy call on him on Friday, August 29, 2025, at his palace in Accra.
“We should not take our democracy for granted, and I believe that it is a great initiative from the Members of Parliament and the Speaker of Parliament that you lead and seek to bring all people in Ghana together,” he said.
“We should not take our democracy for granted; we should not take the peace we enjoy in Ghana for granted.
“Most countries have been through elections and have ended up in a civil war or something of that sort, but we have enjoyed peace and we have earned a lot of respect.
“Today, I’m ready to support this game with 1,000 tickets.”

The Democracy Cup was launched by Parliament last year to celebrate Ghana’s democratic gains and promote peace ahead of the 2024 general elections. It has since become an annual event.
The first edition of the trophy was won by Asante Kotoko, who beat Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium.
