Karela United extended their unbeaten start to the Ghana Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Medeama SC at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday, thanks to Felix Mortu’s late strike.
Despite enjoying 60% possession, the visitors struggled to turn their dominance into real chances, registering just six attempts on goal, two of which tested the keeper.
Karela, on the other hand, proved sharper in attack with nine shots, three on target.
The decisive moment arrived in the 79th minute when Karela forward Mortu pounced to fire past goalkeeper Felix Kyei, netting his first goal of the season and sparking wild celebrations among the home fans.
Medeama fought to draw level but Karela’s compact approach frustrated them throughout the contest.
The win lifts Karela to second on the league table, while Medeama drop to fourth after suffering their first defeat of the season.
Karela will next face newly promoted Hohoe United, while Medeama aim to bounce back against Nations FC on matchday four.
