Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has expressed pride in the achievements of the company during his tenure, highlighting the reopening of the Sunyani Airport and the near-completion of the Kumasi International Airport as key milestones.
Speaking in an interview on the AM Show, Mr Adom-Otchere said the reopening of the Sunyani Airport, which had been closed for years, was a major accomplishment that significantly boosted air traffic in the Bono Region.
“We went in at a time when the Sunyani Airport was closed, and it became an ambition of the president at the time that he needed to open it. When we did, the traffic flow was amazing and shocking—it made us feel we had done a very good job,” he said.
He added that the successful completion of the Kumasi Airport’s new terminal and other upgrades has transformed the facility into one that meets international standards.
“I saw a video of the German president arriving at the Kumasi Airport, and the beauty of the exterior when he was leaving matched any European airport. I felt proud about it,” he noted.
Paul Adom-Otchere, who served under the Akufo-Addo administration, said he remains confident that the work done by the GACL Board during his leadership will stand the test of time.
“Hopefully, when posterity comes to judge, they will judge us positively,” he remarked.
The Kumasi and Sunyani Airport projects formed part of the government’s broader aviation infrastructure agenda aimed at decentralising air transport and promoting regional development across Ghana.
