Former Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has claimed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is behind the upcoming parliamentary rerun, insisting that the 2024 election was conducted transparently and without fault.
Speaking to Joy FM on Thursday, December 11, Mr Nyindam described the High Court ruling that ordered the rerun as unnecessary, arguing that the original results were legitimate.
“I can tell you without any fear of contradiction that nothing went wrong with the election. We have gone to the Court of Appeal to challenge the ruling, but they are not allowing me to even contest the decision,” he said, expressing frustration with the legal processes.
He further criticised the declaration of the seat as vacant, calling it premature since related cases are still before the Supreme Court, scheduled for hearing on December 16 and 18.
“Then the Electoral Commission comes out with a date for a rerun. You see how they have planned this. It is a planned thing,” he added, accusing the NDC of manipulating the process.
Despite his concerns, Mr Nyindam said he remains prepared for the polls and confident in the support of his constituents.
“I am not worried. I am waiting for the 30th. The people of Kpandai who voted for me in the 2024 election believe that I can represent them,” he noted.
The Electoral Commission has set Tuesday, December 30, 2025, for the rerun, in line with a ruling by the Tamale High Court on Monday, November 24, directing that a fresh election be held within thirty days.
The Commission’s decision follows an official communication from the Clerk of Parliament on Monday, December 8, confirming that the Kpandai parliamentary seat has been declared vacant.
