A journalist with the Class Media Group has reportedly been assaulted by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service while covering events at the Kasoa New Market.
The incident is said to have occurred when the reporter was filming a confrontation between firefighters and traders at the market, following a recent fire outbreak. Information available indicates that the journalist was attacked while attempting to record the exchange between the firefighters and the traders.
MyJoyOnline also understands that some residents at the scene were also allegedly assaulted during the confrontation.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service has not commenced investigations into the incident.
On Sunday, January 4, a major fire outbreak was recorded at the Kasoa New Market, prompting an emergency response from the Kasoa Fire Station and the Weija Fire Station.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service, personnel from both stations were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze.
