The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has accused former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, of contributing to the party’s downfall.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, January 13, Mr Mohammed alleged that Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s past actions had harmed the party at the grassroots level.
He cited administrative missteps during his oversight as the Chairman Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, where he oversaw excavators, gold seizures, and infrastructure projects, including a floating bridge, some of which resulted in losses or failed projects, adding that it is about time they decide to expel him from the party.
"This is a person who has been one of those who have contributed to the downfall of the party. If you go down there and ask the grassroots of the party, you will see the damage that Professor has done to the New Patriotic Party," he said.
The comments come as the NPP proceeds with formal steps to expel Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, following his controversial remarks describing the party as 'fake' and questioning its internal democratic processes.
According to Mr Mohammed, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng is someone who has openly expressed his wish not to remain a member of the party, adding that "we are taking steps to grant his wish."
He emphasised that the party operates under a constitution and established laws, and anyone who violates these provisions will face disciplinary action.
“The formation of the NPP was voluntary. If a member no longer wishes to belong to the party, we take the appropriate steps to grant that wish, in accordance with the rule of law,” he said.
He also warned that the NPP would continue to enforce discipline, asserting that “no one, regardless of position, can act above the party.”
