Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has revealed that the government plans to rename Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport.
The announcement signals a major change to one of the country’s most recognisable national landmarks.
Mr Ayariga made this known while addressing journalists ahead of the first sitting of the Second Session of the 9th Parliament.
He explained that the decision forms part of broader efforts to reflect Ghana’s democratic values and national identity in public institutions.
“Government intends to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport,” the Majority Leader said, noting that a bill would be presented to Parliament in line with established procedures.
He stressed that such decisions must be grounded in law and guided by the will of the people.
The proposed renaming is expected to generate public debate, given the historical significance of the airport’s current name, with Parliament anticipated to play a key role in deliberations once the matter is formally brought before the House.
