Vera Abena Addo, Programmes Officer at CDD-Ghana, has called for a comprehensive review of Ghana’s housing sector to ensure that every citizen has access to decent and affordable accommodation.
Speaking on JoyNews’ programme The Law on Sunday, March 8, she said reforms proposed by the Constitution Review Committee (CRC) provide an opportunity to address persistent housing challenges in the country.
According to her, housing remains a critical development issue that must receive greater attention from policymakers and stakeholders.
“We need to review the housing sector to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to decent accommodation,” she said, stressing that adequate housing is essential for improving the quality of life of citizens.
Ms Addo noted that the recommendations contained in the CRC report highlight the need for deliberate reforms that would strengthen housing policies and make them more responsive to the needs of the population.
“Housing is not just about shelter; it is about dignity and creating an environment where people can live safely and productively,” she stated.
She further explained that the Constitution Review Committee (CRC), chaired by Henry Kwasi Prempeh, was tasked with reviewing key aspects of Ghana’s constitutional framework and proposing reforms to strengthen governance and social protections.
“If we are serious about inclusive development, then issues like housing must be prioritised so that every Ghanaian can live in decent conditions,” she added.
