A final-year student of Effutu A.M.E Zion Girls Senior High School, Emmanuella Quainoo, has died after a swarm of bees attacked her on campus in the Effutu Municipality.
The incident reportedly occurred around 5:00 p.m. on the school premises, where the student was stung by the bees.
She was rushed to the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital but was pronounced dead in the early hours of the following morning while receiving treatment.
Eyewitnesses told Adom News that they were near the school when they saw students running for safety during the attack. Moments later, they found Emmanuella lying unconscious on the ground.
According to the witnesses, attempts to get emergency assistance were delayed after the Winneba Fire Service was unable to respond due to a reported breakdown of its fire tender.
Personnel from the Apam Fire Service were later contacted, but they arrived after the situation had worsened.
Family members of the deceased have been left devastated by the incident.
Her grandmother, Vida Ayi Mensah, disclosed that Emmanuella had been enrolled to rewrite her WASSCE after previously failing her science paper last year. She expressed shock over the tragic loss.
