Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has disclosed that several Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) in the Ashanti Region and other parts of the country are undertaking borehole projects at an average cost of GH¢100,000 each, with approval from government.
According to him, the initiative is not arbitrary but forms part of an authorised effort to expand access to water in various communities.
Speaking on Oyerepa FM on Monday, March 31, the Old Tafo MP stated, “I can confidently disclose that the Asokwa MCE and other MCEs in the Ashanti Region has been drilling boreholes costing an average of GH¢100,000.”
He stressed that the figures being cited reflect what is currently being implemented on the ground.
Mr Assafuah, who previously served as a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, underscored his familiarity with such projects, insisting the process has received the necessary backing.
“Don’t forget I have been a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development before and I know there has been approval for the MCEs to be drilling these bore holes,” he added.
However, the Asokwa MCE, who was present in the studio during the discussion, disputed the GH¢100,000 average cited by the MP.
He maintained that in his municipality, borehole projects cost between GH¢80,000 and GH¢90,000 on average, suggesting variations in pricing across districts.
