Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced that the government will offer police recruitment opportunities to families who lost relatives during the police shooting at Sefwi Sayerano in the Western North Region.

The announcement came when the Interior Minister, accompanied by the Minister for Health and Member of Parliament for Sefwi Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, visited the bereaved families and the community following the tragic incident.

Addressing residents, Alhaji Muntaka appealed for calm and assured them that justice would be served as investigations into the shooting continue.

The Interior Minister also pledged to construct a police station in the community to strengthen security and improve police-community relations.

He assured residents that the government would ensure the outcome of the investigations is fair and transparent.

“The right thing will be done, and justice will be served without fear or favour,” he assured.

The shooting occurred on July 7, 2026, when armed personnel from the Sefwi Wiawso Divisional Police Command entered Sefwi Sayerano to arrest a suspected drug dealer.

During the operation, the suspect was allegedly assaulted, prompting some residents to intervene in an attempt to stop the arrest.

The situation escalated after police allegedly opened fire, killing three people and injuring several others. In the aftermath of the incident, unidentified individuals set the community police post ablaze.

Following the shooting, the Ghana Police Service interdicted eight officers who were allegedly involved in the incident pending the outcome of investigations.

The Minister for Health and MP for Sefwi Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with investigators.

He described the incident as deeply unfortunate and assured the affected families that every effort would be made to ensure justice is served.
