The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has rescued a fuel tanker driver and his mate after the tanker they were travelling in overturned at Adubili Yili in Tamale.
Firefighters from the Northern Regional Headquarters Sub-Station responded promptly to the incident and found the tanker, which was carrying approximately 45,000 litres of diesel, overturned with the two occupants trapped inside.

The crew swiftly commenced a rescue operation and successfully freed the driver and his mate. The two victims were subsequently handed over to personnel of the National Ambulance Service for medical attention.

Firefighters also took precautionary measures to prevent a secondary fire outbreak by cooling the tanker and containing the spilled diesel at the scene.

During the rescue operation, two buses were involved in a separate collision, with one of them crashing into a parked GNFS fire appliance and damaging its air system.

The GNFS said its personnel remained at the scene to manage the situation and minimise the risk of further incidents.
