Supreme Court Justice nominee Hafisata Amaleboba has thrown her weight behind President John Mahama’s recent sanctions against ministers who failed to declare their assets.

She stated that the measures do not undermine the mandate of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

“I do not think it is a usurpation of power,” the nominee insisted.

Speaking during her vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Wednesday, Justice Amaleboba argued that the President’s imposition of fines aligns with administrative procedures and does not conflict with CHRAJ’s role.

“I believe that the Office of the President has cited some administrative procedure, and I do not see that there is a conflict with the duties of CHRAJ because if a public officer is reported to CHRAJ as having contravened the law on filing of the necessary documents or declaring assets, CHRAJ would also be entitled to take its necessary action."
