Deputy Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Alhassan Tampuli, has said that the outcome of the 2024 general election should not necessarily be used to discredit Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s political future.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, August 30, the Gushegu MP explained that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral defeat was the result of many complex factors that went beyond the flagbearer’s individual performance.
He argued that Dr Bawumia should not be judged solely on the basis of the party’s loss.
“The performance in the 2024 polls cannot necessarily be used against Dr Bawumia,” Mr Tampuli said. “There were broader issues at play, and it would be unfair to place the entire outcome at his doorstep.”
Mr Tampuli further stressed that the NPP must take a holistic approach to reviewing its electoral defeat, considering governance challenges, public sentiment, and campaign strategies, rather than attributing blame to a single personality.
He maintained that Dr Bawumia remains an important figure in the party’s future direction.
