Former Ghana Football Association President Kwasi Nyantakyi says he didn’t overly concentrate on the Black Stars as it was reported during his time.
The senior national team was in two finals, reached the semifinals of the AFCON seven times and reached the quarter finals of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
The Black Stars also appeared in all three editions of the FIFA World Cup during Nyantakyi’s administration.
The former CAF 1st Vice President was criticised by section of the media who claim the focus of his team on the Black Stars to the detriment of the other products of the federation.
In an interview on GTV Sports+, he revealed that the Black Stars formed not more than 20 per cent of the FA’s work.
"If you look at our work then, we spent not more than 20 per cent of our time on the Black Stars," he revealed.
"The Black Stars is the flagship no doubt, every country has one senior national team. On the other hand, the interest the media and the public has in the Black Stars is what over the years has elevated it over the other products we are engaged in,” he said.
"We do a lot of things, refereeing, youth football, women’s football and among others but sadly the interest of the media and the public show in these other products are not the same.
Even during Black Stars training you find a lot of media and the public showing interest but go to an international match involving the women’s U17 or U20 you hardly find top media people covering it so, in the end, the Black Stars appears to be enjoying more prominence from the public but it is convenient for people to shift that only on the GFA.”
