Former Asante Kotoko coach Didi Dramani has urged Ghanaian clubs to be more responsible about the development of young players.
The transitional coach at FC Nordsjælland in Denmark was speaking on AM Sports on Joy News about the way forward for the Black Satellites.
The Ghana U-20 team were victorious in Mauritania, winning their fourth Africa Cup of Nations trophy after beating Uganda 2-0 in the final.
However, Dramani believes that although Ghana’s youth team have conquered Africa, clubs should be enforced to aid in the progression of players.
“Instituting structure to our youth system has to be based on clubs. Before a club is licensed to operate in Ghana professionally, the club need to have structured youth programs handled by qualified personnel.”
Dramani went to emphasize the reason for such a system saying: “You cannot develop football with the national team. The Black Stars has no player, all these players called are owned by clubs.”
Dramani, who won two Ghana Premier League titles at Kotoko, also encouraged clubs to keep track of the development of young players.
“Players need to be evaluated periodically by consistently updating their database. At this stage, young players need specific matches to help their technique and character development. Every move and action of these young players should be tracked so it’s easier to help them develop.”
Dramani is a well experienced coach in Ghana football who over the years has helped in the development and transitioning of various players.
