Police in the Eastern Region has arrested a man in the Abuakwa South Municipality for killing his wife.
According to the Suhum District Police Commander, 35-year-old Samuel Gyekye was reported to have shot his wife, 42-year-old Abena Owusua on Tuesday around 12 midnight.
Chief Supt Joseph Owusu said two men namely Kwaku Osei, Maxwell Obeng and Kwadwo Bosompem called the police but the suspect had run away.
The Police, he said, had proceeded to the scene and found Abena Owusua lying in a pool of blood dead with a gunshot wound at her back.
"On inspection, a locally manufactured gun loaded with 1 BB empty cartridge was found at the scene," Supt Owusu said.
The suspect was later nabbed by the community members at Abesim near Nkronso in the Eastern Region.
Speaking to JoyNews' Maxwell Kudekor, Supt Owusu said the suspect had attempted to harm himself with a hammer before he was arrested and taken into custody.
He was later taken to the hospital under police supervision to treat wounds he sustained while trying to hit his head.
The body of the deceased, however, has been sent to the Suhum Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
