The Electoral Commission (EC) has given the assurance that it will not take any decision that will compromise the integrity and credibility of the December 7, polls.
Guggisberg Asirifi-Young, the Bono Regional Director of the EC gave the assurance in an interview in Sunyani when responding to an alleged change of venue of the Sunyani West constituency collation center.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency says the party was worried about the change of location of the constituency’s coalition centre from the Old Sunyani West Municipal Assembly Hall to the Odomaseman Senior High School (ODASS) dining hall.
At a news conference held at Odomase, the constituency capital, Miss Millicent Yeboah Amankwah, the Sunyani West Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC cited poor lighting systems and other reasons at the ODASS dining hall could undermine the integrity of the Elections.
However, Mr Asirifi-Young told the GNA that the EC had no hands in the said change of the venue, saying, it was the police in collaboration with the election stakeholders that decided a suitable location for the collation of the election results.
“In fact, the ODASS dining hall is what the Election stakeholders brought to us as the suitable collation centre for the constituency.
“The police and the stakeholders in the constituency decide on the venue and location for the collation centre and the EC has no hands in that at all,” he stated, adding “Even at the collation centre we just collate the already known results and nothing else.”
