Hosts Egypt were too strong for Ghana as the Pharaohs came from behind twice to snatch a 3-2 victory in their Group A clash at the ongoing U23 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday.
Black Meteors twice led through captain Yaw Yeboah and then Samuel Obeng but the hosts replied through Mohamed Moustafa, Ramadan Sobhi and Ahmed Yasser Rayyan as Egypt earned all three points at Cairo International Stadium.
The result sends Egypt through to the semi-finals ahead of their last group game against Cameroon while Ghana sit third with a point ahead of Thursday's matchday three opponent Mali.
Joy Sports Owuraku Ampofo rates each of the Ghana players after the disappointing defeat against Egypt.
Kwame Baah – 5
Made some good saves in the game but his glory turned into agony after he failed to hold onto a Rahman Magdy shot as Sobhi pounced to make it 2-2 in the 82nd minute.
Fobi Kingsley- 2
A night to forget as he suffered a torrid time against Sobhi. Most of the attacks by the Egyptians went through his flank simply because he (Fobi) was poor.
Edward Sarpong – 3
Caught ball-watching on a number of occasions and also kept slipping throughout the match.
Mohammed Habib - 4.5
Made a couple of key blocks but generally struggled on the right side of defence trying to cover Fobi.
Fuseini Zackaria – 4
Lost his man Mohamed Moustafa for Egypt’s first goal and never really looked comfortable on the ball.
Lomotey Emmanuel – 4
Failed to impose himself in the midfield as Ghana barely controlled the tempo of the game
Michael Agbekpornu – 4
Lost too many battles in the midfield and looked too deep at times.
Yaw Yeboah – 5
Scored Ghana’s first goal but went missing after that and never really imposed himself on the game.
Kwabena Owusu - 2.5
Too many poor decisions from a player who a lot was expected from coming into this tournament.
Evans Mensah 4
Never really had the opportunity to express himself in attack as he spent a vast majority of the game defending.
Samuel Obeng - 6.5
A goal and assist for the attacker but a relatively quiet evening for him as he lacked quality service and had to feed off scraps.
Substitutes
Simon Zibo - N/A
Evans Owusu - N/A
Issah Abass- N/A
Coach: Ibrahim Tanko – 3
Failed to react to the constant Egyptian wave of attacks in the second half and that cost Ghana. It was clear Fobi was struggling against Sobhi but nothing was done about it.
