A successful Electrification of transportation in Ghana will eliminate "dumsor and drastically reduce our dependence on the US dollar. Resulting into a major economic gain for the country.
As a nation we consume about 64,000 barrels of refined oil daily. Even at today's low crude oil price, due partly to the rise in EVs globally. Ghanaians are still spending about $5 Million daily on oil and $2 Billion yearly.
As a result, there is always huge pressure on the cedi against the US dollar every day.
Oil and petroleum products are the most imported commodities to the country.
However with more EVs on the road our consumption of oil will be reduced dramatically and lower our dollar dependence.
Electrical vehicles (EVs) will be a win-win situation for Ghana. It will both improve our economy and the environment.
Leaders must seize this opportunity to revive our economy and hatch a long term plan for this new age of electrical transformation of transportation which will reduce our oil consumption and dollar demand.
Western governments are offering rebates to their people to own EVs. Oil demand displaced by electric vehicles globally will more than double from what it is today to almost 4 million barrels per day by 2027, as a new report suggests. Currently the world consumes about 100 million barrels of oil daily.

However, the question still remains which leader is going to lead the campaign to educate Ghanaians about the new age of electrification of transportation.
With increasing EVs on the road, there must be enough power generation to support the additional demand on the national grid. To prevent any dumsors when everything is plugged in.
Availability of charge stations across the nation and electrical capacity for home chargers to make the transition easier.
