‘Essence’ by Wizkid trends amidst 2022 Grammy Awards

Nigerian artiste, Wizkid, and his sound track "Essence" are trending on social media platform Twitter.

This is because social media users are shocked that "Essence" that featured Tems, did not grab the Best Global Music Performance at the 2022 Grammy awards.

At the end of the event, “Mohabbat” by Arooj Aftab won the Best Global Music Performance. The contenders for the category included “Do Yourself” by Angélique Kidjo and Burna Boy; Femi Kuti's “Pà Pá Pà”, and “Blewu” by Yo-Yo Ma and Angélique Kidjo.

According to users, Essence, which is one of the soundtracks on the Made in Lagos album portrayed the African culture best than any of the other songs listed.

They have described Essence's failure to grab the award as "daylight robbery". Some Nigerian users further argued that Essence, with an upcoming artist Tems, did so well on the top 10 of Billboard Top 100.
