The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, on Sunday, 27 April, led a grand ceremony to honour the hardworking branch executives who played a key role in securing a resounding parliamentary and presidential victory for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency during the last elections.
The colourful event, held at the Astro Turf in Madina, brought together 3,889 party executives, including Ward Coordinators, Secretaries, Organizers, Zonal Leaders, Assembly Members, and Unit Committee Members from all 321 polling stations in the constituency. The celebration served as a platform to express appreciation for their dedication, loyalty, and tireless work during the campaigns.

In his speech, Mr. Sosu outlined a range of awards and incentives designed to reward excellence and encourage sustained commitment at the grassroots. “For example, branches that recorded the highest votes will receive special awards,” he announced. Prizes for outstanding performers included motorcycles, brand-new laptops, tricycles, foreign trips, scholarships, job placement opportunities, and cash prizes.
“We are not just giving out awards; we are also recognizing the sacrifices made by our grassroots soldiers. Our politics is not going to be transactional — it will be transformational,” Sosu emphasized, reinforcing his vision for a new style of leadership within the NDC.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the launch of a One Million Ghana Cedis (GHC 1,000,000.00) Welfare Scheme for all branch executives under the "Madina Potwesi" initiative. The fund, with an initial deposit of GHC 100,000, is aimed at providing medical and emergency support for grassroots members who continue to sacrifice for the party. The MP appealed to well-wishers and philanthropists to contribute generously to the fund to ensure its sustainability.
Mr. Sosu also shared emotional moments recalling the tragic loss of dedicated campaigners during the election period, paying tribute to Nathaniel and others who made the ultimate sacrifice. He reiterated the importance of supporting party members not only politically but also in their personal welfare, underscoring his deep commitment to the NDC’s grassroots.

The event also celebrated financiers, donors, and other key contributors whose support was instrumental to the NDC’s electoral success in Madina. Many party members described the occasion as a historic milestone in recognizing the crucial role of branch executives in political victory.
The grand ceremony concluded with music, dance, and a renewed pledge by all members present to work even harder for the NDC’s future successes.
